Not Dog Fans

My husband and I are not animal fans. I don't know why, we both had animals growing up. He had several dogs and cats and I had a dog or two. So, I don't know where we got these attitudes. We tolerate animals when in the presence of them, but don't look to add one to our family any time soon. Don't start hating me yet...I think animals are great! I love the look of a boy with his dog. I cry over the documentaries where a puppy is trained to be a seeing eye dog to help a blind person. A K-9 dog where I live recently died, I was captivated by the news footage and especially sad when his partner was interviewed. I do have soft spot in my heart for DOGS (not any other animal though...sorry cat lovers). I just don't want to own one...right now that is. I am sure when Nora is old enough to ask for one, we will give in and go pick out the most adorable mutt we can find. But, the dog will live OUTDOORS! That is my one stipulation! Our backyard is not gigantic, it's big enough for patio furniture, some really pretty flowerbeds, and a future swingset, but not a good enough playground for a 50 pound dog (I don't want a little dog...I'm thinking golden retriever or lab-a dog that size). We need a bigger yard before we adopt a dog-I think it's only fair because we really will try very hard to be good owners! (Next door to us are the most annoying dogs on the planet. As soon as we step foot outside, they bark constantly the ENTIRE time we are in the backyard. After a few hours, we start to ignore the yapping coming from the other side of the fence, but it really does grate on our nerves!-just a side story, thought you would like to know) I'm sure you're wondering why in the world I feel the need to write about this. This leads me to Nora's Halloween costume. What am I dressing my little girl as? A dog. Not a great big dog, nope, a poodle. I couldn't resist...the costume was so precious and I knew she would make it even more adorable. So, here she is, the poodle of parents who aren't crazy about animals...kind of ironic, huh?

She looks adorable. I understand and agree with you about dogs. Unfortunately my husband does not and we are the owners of two large and loud dogs. I really can't stand them and of course they are never allowed in the house-they shed! Gross!!Enjoy your first Halloween with your poodle!

That is too cute. I am so glad you feel that way. My husband and I are the same way. We both had tons of pets growing up, but I just don't want any right now. I get horrible attitudes about it from people. They act like I hate animals. Believe me, I love animals. I love to visit other people's dogs and kitties, but I just don't want to deal with one. Oh, and I am also big on the outdoor animals thing. Thanks for making me feel better. I'm not the only one!

Very nice costume.

As for dogs, I never had a dog growing up. Sara had several.

Despite my best efforts, our first dog, Luke, was very much an indoor dog.

Yes, he shed. Yes, he threw up a few times. Yes, he dug a small hole in a wall in our laundry room. Yes, it took extra work to keep the house clean.

But he became part of the family. And so we accepted those things.

My personal feelings - dogs should have backyards to play in. However, our dogs (past and future) will be welcome indoors at night and especially on extra hot, cold and rainy days.

I understand your feelings. I grew up with parents who felt the same way - and still do!

I felt exactly like you then we got a dog! Now she pretty much runs the house. I had all these rules before we got her and she broke me down gradually as a puppy. She DOES NOT sleep with us, however. I draw the line at animals in the bed...it's gross.

What a darling little poodle Nora makes. I would like to play with her!

Sometimes outside dogs are noisy because they don't get enough attention from their people. Your neighbors probably got two dogs so that they would keep each other company, but that isn't enough.

Cookie, we NEVER get table scraps! What are you talking about?

Well, I guess you can try. Nora is a CUTE little poodle!

Precious poodle pictures of sweet Nora! I also loved the family fall pics outside...who took them?? So much to catch up. I will call you later today! About the dog thing...totally agree! Our kids haven been asking about getting a dog or cat lately. So, I am sure the Echols family will have their first "outside" pet soon! There is nothing worse than sitting on someone's couch and getting dog or cat hair on your cute black pants! By the way, who are the dog (jackie and cookie) comments from on your blog?? They are hilarious!!! :)

Love you, Leslie
