How white is white?

  1. While at the park today, enjoying our Mommy and Me group, one of the other mommies looked at me and said, "You are WHITE!". Um, yes, but actually the PC term is Caucasian.

I don't think she was referring to my ethnicity. She was mentioning my super-pale skin. So, I ask you, How white is white?

I wanted to remind of her of a few key facts (a few I did mention, but it was useless):

1. It is APRIL for goodness sake! The last time I had a good tan in April was my senior year of high school when I was convinced that I had to have a tan by prom.

2. This is the first week of the year that the weather has not been crazy. If she remembers correctly, a week and a half ago, we were getting snow!

3. Does she think I am really going to go to a tanning bed? I am pregnant!!!! And, I remember my friend, Brooke, going to a tanning bed in college and leaving before her session was even over. The verse that her body is a temple kept running through her head. I haven't been able to lay in a tanning bed since without thinking of her.

4. I now have a one year old...laying out is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE!

5. I have the rest of the summer to take on a little color...back off!

In my defense, I wore a tank top today. I was trying to get the ball rolling. And, now that I am older, I am a little more worried about skin cancer. It is not necessary for me to be a nice golden bronzed color to be happy with my body. Who am I kidding...I am not going to be "happy" with my body all summer. As mentioned previously, I am pregnant!

Have I lost it, am I supposed to be "beach ready" yet? Am I expected to have color on my body at this point in the season? Help a girl out...am I that out of touch with reality?

No tan is expected, yet or if ever this summer. I live in Texas and we haven't even had too many nice days y, so I can imagine you haven't had many either. Gone are the days of lounging by the pool with a book in hand when you are a mom of a toddler! Have you tried Jegens Natural Glow Lotion? It gives you a tan and mosturizes, without making you orange. And it is pretty cheap unlike other self tanners.

gah. there is nothing wrong with being fair skinned! and that was rude for some socially retarded mom to randomly blurt out anyway. tell her to get a life! i think I am just goign to embrace the fact that being fair is ok and that if nicole kidman can pull it off, so can we. geeez. shes just jealous cause youre all cute and preggers. ;)

I too, am white. And Jill has been kind enough to let me know:) However, I do intend on getting a tan this summer, since being in a bathing suit was out of the question last summer. You are right, it is only April. Plenty of time left!

I am the whitest chic on the planet! I am so super pale. I can tan in the summer time, but I hardly ever have time. I agree with Kim. I love my Jergens Natural Glow. I've been using it for a few days and I've had so many people ask me if I've been tanning. It just gives you a hint of natural color.

Ha ha, that is hilarious about the tanning bed! I second the Natural Glow lotion - it is awesome. I have no idea if its safe for preggo people. Love the pics of you and Nora below with the matching sweaters!!! She is adorable and so are you.

Jergans is the way to go. Just use it every day and you will see results in a week. I think that is the best way to go. I feel like i am white too and I am about to go to Nashville this week and wear shorts and tanktops. I'm nervous about my oh so white legs. But i have been using the Jergans and am praying that it is enough.

Dallas,
Maybe this girl was feeling insecure about her own paleness and it helped her to say those things......Jergens is the way to go...even for people as fair as me!
