Our meals

I have been doing weekly "menus" for about as long as Matthew and I have been married.

I didn't realize that people DID NOT make weekly menus. My mom always did a menu and I just assumed that everyone did.

You know what happens when you assume...

I know there are many blogs out there that do weekly menus and even a blog that has a "button" you can post when doing weekly menus.

My menus are longer than a week, usually 1.5 weeks to 2 weeks long.

Also, when planning my menus, I only "plan" for dinners. Breakfasts are usually cereal, frozen pancakes, eggs, or oatmeal. Lunches for Matthew are leftovers and for me and the girls are sandwiches, quesidillas, leftovers.

So here is my menu for the next 11 days...hope it helps you in your menu planning too:

Thursday: Breakfast burritos; fresh fruit

Friday: Breaded chicken cutlets, green beans, smashed potatoes (Real Simple mag.)

Saturday: Lunch-leftovers; Dinner-sandwiches, chips, apples (for girls)-out to eat (M & D)

Sunday: Lunch-Easter feast with friends (I'm bringing dessert); Dinner-pizza at church

Monday: Zesty chicken enchiladas; corn on the cob (Real Simple mag.)

Tuesday: Ravioli with spinach and bacon; rolls (Real Simple mag.)

Wednesday: Roasted salmon with potatoes and mushrooms; broccoli (Real Simple mag.)

Thursday: leftovers

Friday: frozen pizza; kernel corn (we are having a friend of Nora's spend the night with us Friday and Saturday)

Saturday: Breakfast-donuts!; Lunch-Chick-fil-A; Dinner-Spaghetti, green beans, rolls

Sunday: Lunch-out; Dinner-Bible Study at our house-meatball subs, cole slaw, chips, brownies

Happy eating! And you can tell I just got my latest issue of Real Simple this week. I love the recipes in that magazine!!!!!!

I couldn't resist commenting on this blog. The menu idea came from your Aunt Terri (and perhaps your grandmommy). The beauty was that by having a menu, we saved money when purchasing the ingredients. Also, I made a menu based, primarily, on what I already had on hand. I almost always wrote the menu on one side of an envelope (provided by a source like TU Electric, SW Bell, so I didn't have to pay for the envelope) and then on the other side, I'd write my grocery list. Then, since you also posted about this recently, I'd slip my usable coupons inside the envelope and I was good to go to the grocery store! I love to see my girls following something I did! I love you, mom

Dallas, I am so excited that you do a menu! I do, and I love it!! I actually bought a small, magnetic marker-board that I leave on our fridge. That way Scott knows what to expect for dinner each night. We miss you all!! :)

I am a menu planner as well. I usually only do one week at a time though. I'll have to check out "Real Simple" magazine because I love to use new recipes..are they really simple?

Major props to you on this one, girl. I've only recently started planning a week at a time. Before that, I was lucky if I ever planned for 2 days at a time!

I too love that magazine. I have never done the menu idea but have thought about it a few times. It would save me a lot of time in the grocery and on those numerous trips I make a week b/c I don't have some ingredient that I need to finish my dinner. I think you have inspired me to go ahead and do it!

I do the same thing! It makes it so much easier during the week.

Ok, what is Ravioli with spinach and bacon? Is that what's in the ravioli or is the spinach and bacon on the side??

Apparently I need to get Real Simple magazine. I'm very impressed by the planning! I'm going to try this for the next week instead of trying to figure out supper at 5pm.

I don't know how I'd survive without having some semblance of a menu!
