Since we sold our house, we have been on the hunt for a new one.
Let me rephrase that....we have been on the hunt for a "really good deal".
Our criteria while looking for a new home:
-at least an acre
-more square footage than we currently have
-a "fixer-upper"
-no increase in mortgage (no bonuses or promotions around these parts :) ).
Our realtor told us that our "wish list" might not have everything met. We knew that going into the hunt that it was a bit of a stretch...but still we pressed on!
And we found our diamond in the rough.....the VERY ROUGH.
Let me give you a little tour of our fixer-upper...
Nice fence, huh? We'll need to get that repaired/replaced.
The first view of our new home (which actually isn't ours yet...we don't close until the end of July...fingers crossed that everything goes well!). Pretty much everything you see will be removed...light fixture, wall paper, spindles beside staircase...and yes, that is subflooring that you see. We will be putting flooring down on the entire downstairs.
The half-bath down stairs. Again, everything that you see will be going. Everything that you don't see, because it's not there, will be installed (toilet, sink, fixtures).
A partial view of the kitchen/family room. Can you say blank slate? The cabinets will be ripped down ASAP.
A view of the master bedroom. That is my sister standing in the doorway. It's like she is taking a moment to pray...the light fixtures are too much for her and she has to ask God for strength to make it through the rest of the house. Anyone want some rockin' "night lights"?
Why, yes, that is paneling. Remind you of your grandparents house? This is the "office". That's going to take a few coats to cover up!
Even though the house is a "handyman's dream" and I am sure I will break many nails (on my hands and the kind you hit with a hammer) making it our dream, the view is worth the sweat and tears...
We appreciate your prayers as we go through the inspection and closing. And as we turn our "blank slate" into something fabulous!
Oh, and we met all the criteria on our list!

congrats on finding your diamond!! looking forward to the "after" pictures =)
You guys got your work cut out!! I know it will be fabulous when finished!
Congratualtions on your new place. The yard looks amazing!
You're gonna have to take lots of before and after pictures because I can't wait to see how it all turns out!
Wow! Love the view! I had been wondering how the house hunting was going. Glad to hear you found your diamond in the rough. I really admire people who can go into a house and see what it can be rather than what it is....1 of our criteria was that nothing have to be done (besides changing paint colors) in order for us to move in, we are not handy :) Matt tried to replace a light fixture in the master bedroom and managed to short something out and we had to call an electrician to fix the mess! I will be praying that everything goes smoothly with the inspection and closing!
AWESOME yard! Can't wait to see what you do with the place...lots of pictures in upcoming posts please!
Thanks so much for the blog printing info. I figured it would be pretty time intensive. I too would want the layout just right. Maybe you want to do it for me? Since you'll obviously have so much free time on your hands. But what a big beautiful yard for the kids to play.
Wow! I do love the view! That is great. You guys have more guts than we do, but, you know. . . .I know you will do it because both of you are so good at fixin' up things. You will make it yours and it will be beautiful. Can't wait to see it in person! :) Hopefully very soon! Will be praying as always.
Congratulations! You'll have fun doing the renos. Get a big clock that counts down 30 hours for each room that you do... you'll be amazed at how much you can get done in 30 hours. Seriously. Good luck - wish I could help!
Woo Hoo! Before and after pics project? Love it! Can't wait to see the finished result.
