End of the school year

Both of the girls had their end of the school year programs last week.  It’s hard to believe that their school year is done and I don’t have to drive 25 minutes to take them to school any longer-ha!  Even though the drive was a beating, it was so worth it!  We loved both of the schools the girls went to and are saddened that they won’t be attending them in the fall.

Even harder to believe though is that this was Nora’s last year of preschool…I do not even want to think about how I will cry on her first day of kindergarten (once I get back to the car, of course).  Her year at Life Way Christian School has been amazing.  She loved, loved, loved her teacher and got to be such good friends with all of the kids in her class.  I will say, I cried on her last day.  Was it hormones?  Probably.  But, I am still sad that she won’t be able to go there for kindergarten.

Her program was so cute and she has already taught all of us one of the songs that she sang.

Walking into the program and spotting Matthew (I was in the back row feeding Rives (6 days old)…she couldn’t see me).

We had a picnic lunch afterwards…it was originally scheduled to be outside, but it was pouring down rain, so it was moved indoors.

Nora and Mrs. Ostrand…we will miss her!

Later that week, it was time for Elyn’s program.  She has loved her time at school this year!  Most days, she was sad when I came to pick her up.  She loved her friends and LOVED her teacher!  I think it will be a shock to her system to be home with boring ol’ me this summer.  She learned a ton and has amazed us all year by the things she has picked up on and brought home to share.

When we got to Elyn’s program we realized that the big camera was out of battery power and the card on the flipcam was full…mom of the year.  Thankfully I had my little camera in the diaper bag and it salvaged the night.  I should mention that Rives was 10 days old at this point (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it-ha!)

Here is the back of Elyn’s head, waiting with her friends for the program to begin:

What a great school year for both girls!  I am looking forward to our summer though…our last summer before “real life” begins with our sweet kindergartener…sniff, sniff.  Sunrise, sunset.

My time lately...

My time lately has been spent nursing my sweet baby every 2.5 to 3 hours...and I couldn't be happier about it either!

Rives is so sweet and so good. He tolerates his crazy sisters pretty well and seems laid back-just like everyone told me a third baby would be.

We all love him so much!

The first few days

We’ve been home a few days and are doing pretty great!  I think it is in large part to Rives being such a great baby!  He either has us fooled or he is going to be pretty laid back.  He has made the transition to three kids very easy.  Okay, I’m going to knock on wood now-ha!

Here is Rives with the doctor who pulled him out…my doctor, Dr. J.  He is so great and we were blessed to have him take care of both of us for the past 9 months!

The morning we went home from the hospital…I had gone to get a shower and came out to find Matthew and Rives like this-

IMG_0121IMG_0122

The only picture of Rives in his going home outfit.  The nurses were ready to get rid of us and I felt the pressure to speed things up…oh well, it looks like Rives is a little flustered here too-ha!

About two seconds after this picture, he quit crying…phew!

IMG_0126_edited-1

Ready to head home…look at Nora, she has been crying very dramatically and made last few moments in the hospital less than wonderful.  It was very frustrating for me because I could not understand why she was crying like the baby while Rives was sleeping peacefully in his car seat.  Oh well, this is our life and Nora got a two hour nap when we got home.

And this is me saying-WHAT IN THE WORLD, this is my life now!  Ha ha ha ha!

Heading the elevator…I love that Elyn is holding the boppy!  And the girls got to pick out their own clothes for the day…and Elyn chose her favorite pants, of course.

Three kids in the van now-wow!

Welcome home Rives!

IMG_0138IMG_0142

This is pretty much what the girls have done since Rives has come home…crowded around him, wanting to see everything that he is doing (which is mostly sleeping).

It’s hard to believe she was this little just 5 years ago!

First night at home…a little burrito baby.

The next day, Matthew took the girls to school and my mom and sister went home.  So it was just Rives, me and Matthew for the day.  It was so nice and peaceful.  Rives is so chilled out…

IMG_1269

But we were so happy to have the girls back that afternoon to play!!!!!!  Elyn loves Rives so much!  I was so worried about how she would respond to him and she has surprised me!  She is great with him, wanting to be involved in absolutely everything!  She thinks it is fascinating when I nurse him and asked me once already if she could feed him-ha!

Elyn took this picture of Rives with my phone…it makes me laugh every time I see it!

My four favorites-

This morning, while Matthew was painting our bathroom, the girls and I played with some play-doh.  Rives slept through the whole thing.

IMG_1277

Hard to believe she is not our “baby” any longer.  She seems so big!

IMG_1280

We have had a nice two days at home as a family of five.  Rives has slept great, ate great and is peeing and pooping great…he has his job down!  The girls have had a few moments of breakdown, but for the most part are adjusting to him beautifully.  And, of course, Matthew and I are just in awe that we now have three kids and feel so very, very blessed!

Welcome!

It has been a joy to welcome our baby boy to our family!  It has been a fast few days and honestly, I wish our time in the hospital was longer and slower!  I have enjoyed the one on one time with Rives and having all these other people wait on us-ha!  Seriously though, I know things are going to speed up once we get home and my devotion will not be solely focused on the newest member…I’ll miss this special time!

IMG_0044

We had a scheduled c-section for yesterday.  It was supposed to happen at noon but due to an emergency, we were bumped back to 1:00.  No biggie, I got to hang out with my girls a little longer…

IMG_0013

Once they started the surgery, it took a little bit longer than expected because of a lot of scarring.  I was pretty anxious the entire time, but thankfully Matthew was there, holding my hand and the doctors were great about telling me what was going on.  Because of all the scarring, it took longer than I expected to get him out but once he came out, he was crying and perfect!  My doctor said, “He’s a shaggy boy” because of all of his hair-ha!

He did a few little respiration issues at the beginning because of some fluid that was inhaled and on his lungs.  Thankfully, they cleared him out pretty quickly and we were able to get a few pictures:

IMG_0017IMG_0021

While I was finishing up in the OR, Matthew went with Rives back to the nursery and they girls got to see him, through the blinds:

IMG_0025IMG_0026

After they cleaned him up and made sure his breathing was okay, I finally got to hold him!

IMG_0030

And so did big sister Nora…she was so proud!

IMG_0033IMG_0034IMG_0037

Big sister Elyn did not want to hold him…she just wanted to hang out with me.  Sweet girl, her world is so different now!

We have had lots of family and several visitors…all such blessings:

When Elyn came back last night, after dinner, she was ready to hold Rives!

IMG_0076

Yea!  She loves him!

And how could she not?  Look at how sweet he is…
