Well, it’s been a week and a half since we have gotten the house, a little over a week since we have been working on it.
And by “we”, I mean Matthew and a crew of volunteers.
I have been an absent wife and worker.
It’s not that I haven’t been pulling my weight, I have, I just haven’t been pulling the weight at the house.
While I have been carting the girls from grandparents house to grandparents house, dealing with an exploding car and beginning a new part-time (VERY part-time) job, a tremendous amount of work has been going on at the “project”.
Here is a run-down of the jobs that have been done since last Friday night:
- all ceilings scraped
- most of the wall paper taken down (thanks to Matthew’s mom)
- a new roof put on
- kitchen cabinets ordered
- new windows ordered
- new kitchen sink/faucet ordered and delivered
- door way between kitchen and utility room widened
- old kitchen cabinets/microwave/headers ripped out (thank you Michael and Rick)
- balusters put on back deck to make it safe for our children (thanks to Michael)
- paneling ripped down and sheetrock put up in office…currently being taped and mudded
- can lights installed in kitchen/family room (thank you John Sharp!)
- ceiling fans removed from kitchen/family room
- living room, entry way and dining room primed
- majority of utility room primed
- closet ripped out in utility room
- gutters removed (thank you Rick!)
- flooring for downstairs picked up and delivered to house
- carpet ripped up and hauled out
- all trash hauled out to trailer
- front yard mowed…done by 75-year-old neighbor who was just being “neighborly”. So NICE!!!!!!!
So, obviously someone has been busy! His name is Matthew Henderson. And thankfully we have good family/friends who are willing to give up their precious time to help us out. I have not been at the house very often but when I have been, I have picked up a paint brush to help out. I’m really hoping that after this next week, I will be able to cross a few things off of Matthew’s very lengthy list.
I am NOT doing a very good job of documenting the “during” stage. Here is what I have and I hope to do a much better job from now on.
I know, disappointing.
Again, if you live in the area and are sitting at home with nothing to do, feel free to come on by the “project”. We will surely find something for you to do.

Glad to hear things are going well. I was wondering and hoping that they were since we hadn't heard anything since the "exploding" car update! Sounds like you guys have been busy...can't wait to see the finished project
I honestly can't even imagine doing all that work...especially in this heat. What a hard working man you have!
Wow, sounds like some great progress.
